Throwback to 2006 - Cold weather testing for the Nissan Qashqai prototype
With the announcement today that the all-new Nissan Qashqai will be unveiled on 18th February it seems the perfect time to dig into the archives: all the way back to February 2006.
I was commissioned to shoot the cold weather testing of this secret new vehicle up in the Finnish artic circle. We spent days on a frozen lake with engineers driving the car, checking for potential failures due to the cold or snow ingress.
It was, as you can imagine, freezing. I had every item of clothing I’d taken with me on, including a very fetching balaclava.
Aside from the spectacular sunsets and a very fleeting sighting of the northern lights, my overriding memory was of having reindeer on the menu for every single meal, breakfast, lunch or dinner. And beer, lots, of beer...
